Defending the gulf

It was built on the top of the island where there was a sighting tower for defense against barbarian incursions.
The semaphore station was installed by the Navy to report marine weather data according to the forecast of the condition of the sea.
The Army built the Gulf defense gun battery there. With the curved shots of its howitzers it was supposed to hit the decks of the enemy ships.
Given to the Municipality of Porto Venere, it was restored and used as a Hostel and Environmental Education Center. In particular, it is an excellent base for observing migratory bird species. A botanical trail has been set up on the spectacular ridge.
